|hello - i'm on the right in the plaid shirt!|
I am an old soul at heart. I love anything retro or vintage. Even as a pre-teen I loved reading about the days of old Hollywood. My love for decades past, was only made stronger after I took a Classic Film class high school. Watching films like Some Like It Hot, Singing In the Rain, and On The Waterfront made me fall in love with the elegance that women used to exude back then.
Needless to say, I was thrilled when I found out about a new meetup group for like-minded retro-loving women! Every month, this meetup group calls for retro and vintage lovers to dress up for no reason at all and enjoy brunch together. This past month's theme was 1940's- a decade I was totally unfamiliar with!
After doing some research on what women wore in the 1940s and what kind of makeup they wore, I was able to throw together an outfit that I felt was time appropriate (although when I got there, I felt kind of under-dressed!). For my outfit, I wore a knee length, high-waisted navy skirt and my Grandfather's plaid button down (he's 91 so, trust me- the shirt is vintage!). For my hair, I attempted to do a simply style inspired by the popular victory rolls of the time. My finishing touches were mid-size nude heels with a brown Tignanello purse that was a hand-me-down from my Grandmother. I really enjoyed my time out with these lovely ladies and I learned about where to score really nice vintage pieces and where to enjoy vintage themed events around the city. I can't wait until the 50's and 70's brunch dates (my favorite decades).
Thanks for reading! Until next time... :)
